We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Veterinary Assistant to join our team. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing exceptional medical care to our patients. Your responsibilities will include assisting with examinations, treatments, laboratory procedures, and maintaining a clean and organized hospital environment. This is a hands-on position that requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a passion for animal welfare.
Responsibilities:
Safely and effectively restrain animals for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
Aid in physical examinations, administer medications (under direct supervision), collect samples (e.g., blood, urine, fecal), and assist with surgical and dental procedures.
Monitor hospitalized patients, provide basic grooming, feeding, and exercise as directed, and document observations.
Perform basic laboratory tests, such as urinalysis, fecal analysis, and blood smears, or prepare samples for outside laboratories.
Assist with taking radiographs (X-rays) under the direction of the veterinarian and with proper safety precautions.
Fill prescriptions, label medications accurately, and provide client education on medication administration (under direct supervision).
Prepare surgical suites, sterilize instruments, and assist the veterinary team during surgical procedures.
Assist with dental cleanings, including monitoring anesthesia and polishing teeth (as allowed by state regulations).
Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of examination rooms, treatment areas, kennels, and surgical suites.
Assist with stocking supplies and alerting the team when inventory is low.
Communicate with clients regarding patient care, instructions, and follow-up appointments under the direction of the veterinarian or technician.
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a related animal care field is highly preferred.
Strong animal handling and restraint skills.
Knowledge of basic veterinary medical terminology and procedures is a plus.
Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lift and carry animals and equipment (up to 30-45 pounds).
Must be reliable, punctual, and have a strong work ethic.
