Description

Align is seeking an attorney to join its Global Litigation Team as Litigation Counsel. The Litigation Team handles all litigation and arbitration matters for Align, including commercial litigation, antitrust, product liability, intellectual property, and third-party subpoenas and investigations. Reporting to the Senior Director of Litigation, this role involves managing a diverse range of litigation and pre-litigation matters across various jurisdictions. Successful candidates will understand the differences between in-house and law firm litigation environments.

Role expectations

  • Manage internal record collection and discovery processes, working with stakeholders to advise and execute document collection, ensuring consistent responses and objections across multiple complex litigation matters.
  • Assist in managing outside litigation counsel, including staffing, strategy, work product, budgets, and spend management.
  • Represent Align in commercial claims, government investigations, securities claims, and IP assertions, working closely with the litigation team.
  • Support all facets of litigation, including investigations, discovery, witness prep, legal brief revisions, case strategy, and settlement negotiations.
  • Respond to subpoenas, demands, and other requests for information.
  • Manage insurance defense and coverage issues, including product defect cases and consumer complaints.
  • Prepare and present reports on litigation status and risks.
  • Develop litigation strategies aligned with business objectives and collaborate across teams.
  • Investigate and respond to various claims and complaints that could lead to litigation.
  • Advise business partners proactively to resolve potential disputes, supporting company goals.

What We're Looking For

  • 4+ years of successful litigation experience, from law firms, in-house legal departments, or federal agencies.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) required.
  • Experience with in-house litigation management and handling complex litigation volumes preferred.
  • Experience litigating in federal courts is essential.
  • Preferred experience in insurance defense, product liability, subpoenas, and commercial disputes.
  • Proficiency in e-discovery, document preservation, review protocols, and witness prep.
  • Strong legal writing, editing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational, management, and communication skills.
  • High work ethic with a focus on deadlines and quality.
  • Persuasive communication skills with a positive customer/partner approach.
  • A sense of humor and positive attitude.
