Overview Under the direction of the Building Official, the incumbent is responsible for professional and technical work involved in building inspection, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, codes, ordinances and regulations of the City of Stuart and State of Florida. Responsibilities Examine plans, specifications, sketches and blueprints for compliance with local zoning codes and state building codes. Routinely meet with and effectively assist the general public, various professionals, officials, architects, engineers, proprietors and others in attaining compliance with building codes, other codes, ordinances and policies. Approve and recommend for issuance of permits for buildings, infrastructures and construction projects to ensure safety and health of the public. Prepare reports, correspondence and respond to inquiries related to building codes and construction projects. Drive to construction sites performing field inspection as required. Maintain accurate and current files, reports, records and related documents covering the maintenance and completion of building inspection projects and programs. Issue stop work orders for unpermitted work or work by unlicensed contractors. Be on call to perform damage assessments after natural disasters. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent; supplemented by five (5) years of construction inspection experience and certification through the International Code Council (ICC). One- and Two-Family Dwelling Inspector or multiple various State inspection licenses required. Standard Building Inspector and Building Plan Review State Licenses preferred; must have the ability to obtain additional State licenses. Must have a valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
